RACE MORNING TIPS
Given that a good warm up is vital, and that we often spend half the time we had set aside for warm up waiting in porta-pottie and registration lines, I expect these tips will help you to better placings and a more comfortable racing year.
Tip #1: Avoid the hurry up and wait. When driving to a race, stop at a gas station or fast-food joint to use the toilet on the way to the race. There won't be a line and the facilities will often be cleaner, at least later in the day.
Tip #2: The whole team does not need to stand in the reg line. Give forms and licenses to one racer (one racer per line if there are multiple lines for different groups) who will register the whole team. If you team has a manager or someone came along to feed, that person can stand in line. This is how the pros do it. If the line-stander is a rider, be sure to pump up his tires and fill his bottles for him. If possible have riders switch off standing in a long line so everyone can get a warm up.
Tip #3: Rider arrive in a wave that backs up the reg line. Try waiting for the wave to clear. It's rare that a race will start while guys are in line, so wait warm-up and make other preparations until the line gets shorter rather than jumping in line as soon as you arrive at the venue.
Good luck.
