RECOVERY IS FOR LOSERS
When you race bikes or triathlons, winning or even staying mid-pack means doing what needs to be done when it needs to be done. There will be times when you experience tremendous pain and exhaustions and would like nothing better than to sit down and relax. Don't do it. There will be times when you naturally get to recover, but when you start thinking about getting recovery rather than doing what needs to be done, you have lost.
This relates to a second idea: Never decide what you can or can't do. If the break is going or you are in the sprint, or you are climbing the long hill with the group, don't think about the pain, don't wonder if you'll survive, just send the message to the legs that you want them to keep going. At the top of the hill or the end of the sprint, you'll find out if you were able to do it.
