 Tommy's new SingleSpeed
Ok, we'll see if I can actually post a flippin' photo (attached to this post). This is the new Single Speeder I just built up. The wheels, fork, saddle, stem, and brake levers were all from the old parts bin. Got the frame, headset, singlator, cranks and pedals off ebay for $700. The remaining parts were from Montano, CS and WoJ. Total cost < $800. Total weight...just about 19lbs (about a pound heavier than my CX bike).
I took 'er out on a maiden voyage on Saturday afternoon in Jokin Millar park. The bike was great, and handled better than I thought. I was able to ride almost everthing 'cept $2-hill and the nasty little hump below the look out point above Bishop's Walk. It rained, sleeted, hailed, and snowed the whole time. I've never been colder on a bike or perhaps ever (once as a teen maybe, when I was playing hockey all day on the lake in sub-zero temp...wind-chill to about -10... I may have been that cold). When I finished peeling myself out of the soggy stuff my toes were blue. It took nearly 30 minutes in the shower for the color to come back to my feet. BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
